Coffee-Filter
A filter with a story
A remarkable quality of sand is it’s capability to filter
contaminated water.
In the act of preparing coffee we are symbolically reversing this process, filtering our clear water into a dark “contaminated” liquid.
The series of ceramic objects includes a tall container for storing coffee, a filter piece with lid, and two cups.
The filter piece has holes in the bottom which are small enough to filter a rough grind coffee, for finer grinds a paper filter can be added. The metal lid of the filter also functions as a dish to place the filter on after use, catching any remaining coffee left in the filter.
Besides its function as a coffee filter, the objects tell a story.
The story behind the water that is poured into the filter, and the journey it took to get there.
